Back to what I said at the top, I was startled to see so many people interacting with dogs in an unsafe manner at the shelter. I remember one day my coworker stepping into a kennel to scan a dog for a microchip, I saw the warning signs while she was woefully unaware, as I was about to urge her out of the kennel the dog grabbed her arm with a quick nip. While she was filing out paperwork I was sighing as I stepped into the kennel and finished her job. You might think that’s unsafe, after the dog just nipped my coworker, but the dog had warned her, and she had not responded to the dogs warning. I see the dogs warning, I react and calm it, and scan the dog. If I didn’t, what could happen to the dog? The owners wouldn’t get contacted if it actually did have a microchip, in the meantime, the dog grows more stressed as the days pass with no one to calm its fears. It gets marked an unsafe/ un-adoptable dog. Possibly euthanized because the owners didn’t check at the local shelter and its time was up. All because the kennel worker who was supposed to scan the dog, didn’t care to look for warning signs and use proper animal shelter etiquette.
Two of the most common conditions plaguing our dog population today are hip dysplasia and soft tissue injuries to the knee such as ACL tears (ruptures or strains of the anterior cruciate ligament in the stifle joint). Both are generally corrected by surgery and, particularly in the case of ACL tears, have a high rate of reoccurrence and post-surgical development of arthritis. Pet massage therapy can play a crucial role in optimal and rapid recovery from such surgeries and may play a role in reducing the risk of re-injury. Post-surgical confinement also causes boredom and restlessness for many animals and diminished the health of the immune system which is dependent on activity for optimal health. Animal massage can be used to reduce boredom, decrease stress and increase relaxation for dogs and cats during periods of confinement.
Apart from these excellent adaptations, the baby green iguanas are also strong. Imagine that they do fall off the ground at about 40 up to 50 feet but they still manage to come unhurt. The male green iguanas have what is known as the dewlap on their skins. This is the special flap on their skins which they use to impress the female green iguanas or to intimidate their oncoming predators. With these dewlaps, they manage to let themselves appear bigger. Another excellent characteristic for the green iguanas is that they are able to keep fat under their own necks and jaws for quite a time especially when there is not much of the food at hand.
